Most humeral fractures near the shoulder occur at the surgical neck and can be classified as Neer one-part injuries. Mid shaft humeral fractures are almost always the result of direct trauma (less often due to a fall), are either transverse or oblique, and are displaced due to muscular action. Radial nerve injury is the main complication.
Lateral radiograph of the humerus. This shows an oblique fracture of the mid humerus.
AP radiograph of the humerus. The mildly displaced fracture is identified.
